If you've ever experienced diarrhea, you know how embarrassing it can be. Diarrhea can be uncomfortable and can disrupt your life immensely. Occasional diarrhea could be caused by typical daily life which includes stress and poor quality food. If diarrhea symptoms become more constant, it could be a sign of other medical concerns. Severe diarrhea is a serious condition and a doctor should be consulted. Learn more about diarrhea in the following articles.

Causes of Diarrhea

There are many contributing factors that could cause diarrhea. An imbalance of good and bad bacteria is the most common reason for occasional diarrhea. When the bad bacteria overtake the good, digestive issues, such as diarrhea can occur. Knowing the underlying causes for your health concerns can help determine what steps should be taken for resolution.

Causes of diarrhea can include:
  • Norwalk virus
  • Cytomegalovirus
  • Viral hepatitis
  • Herpes simplex
  • Rotavirus virus in children
  • Antibiotics
  • Laxatives

Chronic Diarrhea

Severe diarrhea could be a symptom of a serious health condition requiring medical attention and should not be ignored. If you are experiencing chronic diarrhea, you should consult your doctor immediately.

Chronic, severe diarrhea can seriously impair your health. Your doctor should run tests to find the underlying cause, in order to know what you can do to be relieved.

Diarrhea Remedies

Relieving occasional diarrhea should start with experimenting with your diet. Keep track of what you eat and how your body reacts to the food you eat on a daily basis. You might be able to pick up a pattern that leads to occasional diarrhea. Removing those trigger foods from your diet will be the simplest form of relief.

For additional support, taking probiotics can help ease the symptoms of occasional diarrhea episodes.* Probiotics restore an internal balance of good bacteria, necessary for a properly functioning digestive system.*
